Redefining What Family Is
NORTHERN RESCUE is a family drama starring William Baldwin as John West, who uproots his three children from the big city to return to his home town to take command of the local search and rescue service after the death of his wife. As the family comes to terms with their loss, the series explores the effects on their individual lives. The children’s Aunt Charlotte (Kathleen Robertson) struggles to help John and his children heal as she copes with the loss of her sister and her desire to have a family of her own. Along the way, John faces many situations that challenge him professionally and personally. As the family members work on rebuilding their lives, they will come to meet many colourful characters living in their northern community.

Joining the series is Amalia Williamson as Maddie West, John’s 16-year-old daughter; Spencer MacPherson (DeGrassi: Next Class) as Scout West, John’s 14-year-old son; and Taylor Thorne (Odd Squad) as Taylor West, John’s 10-year-old daughter. Also joining the cast are Michelle Nolden (Saving Hope) as Sarah West, John’s wife, Michael Xavier (Bitten) as Paul Simmons, a volunteer member of the SAR team; and Peter MacNeill (Call Me Fitz) as Harry, John’s retired SAR commander.
The series is created by award-winning writer Mark Bacci (Between, Real Detective), International Emmy®-nominated producer David Cormican (Between, Tokyo Trial), and Daytime Emmy®-nominated performer and writer Dwayne Hill (Peg + Cat, Billable Hours).
A CBC and Netflix original production, NORTHERN RESCUE is produced by Don Carmody Television (DCTV). Executive producers are Don Carmody (Resident Evil, Goon), Cormican, Bradley Walsh (Flower Shop Mystery, The Listener), and Bacci, Baldwin and Hill. Walsh will also direct four episodes including the pilot. Production begins June 2018 in Parry Sound, Ontario.
William Baldwin Stars as John West in Northern Rescue
Billy Baldwin is one of the most famous actors in the world, he is also a producer and writer, who continues to showcase his multitude of talents in film and television.
Baldwin has a busy year ahead starring in several high-profile upcoming projects. He has been travelling the world shooting back-to-back productions – most recently wrapping his recurring, role opposite Miles Teller in Nicolas Winding Refn’s highly-anticipated upcoming Amazon series Too Old to Die Young. He will also appear in the upcoming Netflix series Insatiable.
Additionally, Baldwin will reprise his role as Brian McCaffrey from the 1991 blockbuster Backdraft in the Universal / Netflix sequel Backdraft 2, along with Donald Sutherland. The action drama is now shooting in Eastern Europe. He then will return to the United States to begin his recurring role in the USA Network/SyFy series The Purge. Based on the popular Blumhouse film franchise about one day each year when murder and mayhem is legalized — the series will be an entirely new chapter in America’s 12 hours of annual lawlessness. Baldwin will play David Ryker, the handsome & powerful Managing Partner at an investment firm, who leads his team with confidence & intelligence, but also harbors a Purge night secret.
Baldwin made his television series debut starring in the hit ABC series, Dirty Sexy Money, opposite Jill Clayburgh, Donald Sutherland and Peter Krause. The tongue-in-cheek drama focused on the wealth, power and privilege of the fictional Darling family of New York City. He won rave reviews portraying Patrick Darling, the state Attorney General – who harboured a multitude of scandalous secrets – including an affair with his transgendered mistress. Since then, he has appeared on several acclaimed series including BBC’s Copper, TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland, NBC’s Parenthood & 30 Rock, CW’s Gossip Girl and FX’s Wilfred. He has also guest-starred or had recurring roles on such series as MacGyver, Hawaii 5-0, Hit the Floor, Forever, and starred in the popular Lifetime telefilm The Craig’s List Killer.
Baldwin has starred in over 30 films of varied genres. In 2005, he memorably starred with Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels in the critical award-winning hit film The Squid & The Whale. The drama, directed by Noah Baumbach and produced by Wes Anderson, was recognized on more than 200 top 10 lists that year. He also appeared in the hit comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, with Kristen Bell & Russell Brand, co-starred with William Hurt & Tim Robbins in the independent comedy Noise, as well as the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival & HBO Comedy Arts Festival entry Humble Pie. His other film credits include the screen adaptation of Noel Coward’s Relative Values, One Eyed King, The Brotherhood of Murder, Curdled, Virus, Pyromaniacs: A Love Story, Shattered Image, Double Bang, Fair Game, Sliver, Three of Hearts, Flatliners, Internal Affairs, and The Preppy Murder. He made his feature film debut in Oliver Stone’s Born on the Fourth of July.
As a producer, Baldwin co-produced the independent film Lymelife starring Cynthia Nixon & his brother Alec. He produced & starred in Lead with the Heart and Second Time Around for the Hallmark Network.
A native of Massapequa, New York, Baldwin graduated Binghamton University with a degree in Political Science, and politics remains a passion.
Baldwin serves on the boards of KCLU radio, The Massapequa Community Fund, The Committee to Preserve Olympic Wrestling, The Los Angelitos Orphanage and The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Baldwin lives in California with his wife, singer/songwriter Chynna Phillips and their three children Jameson, Vance and Brooke. He was also the executive producer for Phillips’ record One Reason for her band Chynna & Vaughan.
Kathleen Robertson stars as Aunt Charlie in Northern Rescue
As an actor, Kathleen Robertson is starring in Netflix’s anticipated family drama NORTHERN RESCUE which is currently in production. Robertson recently starred opposite Taye Diggs on Steven Bochco’s critically acclaimed TNT character-based crime drama Murder in the First for three seasons.
Robertson simultaneously had a pivotal recurring role opposite Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore on A&E’s acclaimed, Emmy-nominated Bates Motel as a free-spirited, hippy drug lord. She also garnered much attention for her starring role on Gus Van Sant’s Golden Globe-winning political drama Boss, as the brilliant, broken and duplicitous Kitty O’Neill, press aide to Mayor Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammer). Prior to that, she starred on IFC’s award-winning mockumentary-style improvisational comedy series The Business, on which she also served as executive producer.
Robertson also starred in psychological thriller The Vatican Tapes as a psychologist with a secret past alongside Michael Pena for Lionsgate/Lakeshore. She has appeared in such varied films as Focus Features’ Hollywoodland alongside Academy Award-winners Ben Affleck and Adrien Brody, for director Allen Coulter; IFC Films’ sexual drama XX/XY opposite Mark Ruffalo, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival; New Line’s I Am Sam in a key role alongside Sean Penn; the Sally Field-directed comedy-drama Beautiful with Minnie Driver; John McNaughton’s comedy Speaking Of Sex, opposite Bill Murray; and a starring role in the sequel to Dimension Films’ blockbuster Scary Movie, for director Keenan Ivory Wayans.
Other notable television credits include a starring role alongside Zooey Deschanel in SyFy’s Tin Man, a re-imagining of The Wizard Of Oz, which received multiple Emmy nominations and garnered the highest ratings in the network’s history, as well as a starring role in the Weinstein Co.’s Seal Team Six from the producers of The Hurt Locker.
A five-time Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Actress, Robertson’s first nomination came for her starring role in Torso, playing notorious Canadian murderer Evelyn Dick in the grizzly 1946 true story. Next came her nomination as a struggling single mom who undergoes a “falling down”-style mental and physical breakdown in Last Exit; and most recently for her portrayal of Colleen Howe, controversial wife to hockey legend Gordie Howe and the first female agent in sports history, in Mr. Hockey. Robertson also received a Leo Award for that performance.
As a writer and producer, Robertson is building an impressive slate of both television and feature film projects. On the feature side, she is currently adapting The Possibilities for Fox Searchlight and Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Jason Reitman, who is attached to direct. In addition, she is adapting Little Bee for Amazon Studios, slated to star Julia Roberts. Robertson was also recently brought on to adapt the comic-book series Lady Killer for Dark Horse, with Michelle MacLaren (Westworld, Game of Thrones) directing.
On the television side, Robertson recently signed a deal with Universal Cable Productions to both create and produce original content. She also sold Your Time Is Up to Lifetime with Academy Award-winning producer Gil Netter (Life of Pi, The Blind Side) producing, with Christina Applegate set to star. In addition to this, she also sold an adaptation of Swimming With Sharks to USA Network, Shooting Stars to E! and Hollywood Babylon to Warner Brothers, with John Wells set to direct and exec produce alongside Robertson.
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Robertson currently resides in Los Angeles.
