Left - Joel Cowley, an accomplished leader and passionate advocate for the Western heritage, serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Calgary Stampede, one of the world's largest and most iconic outdoor events. With a rich history in agriculture and event management, Cowley brings invaluable expertise and a forward-thinking vision to the Stampede organization.Growing up on a family farm in Idaho, Cowley developed a deep appreciation for agriculture and the Western lifestyle at an early age.
He pursued his passion academically, earning a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Colorado State University, followed by a Master's degree in the same field from Texas A&M University. Cowley's professional career began in the livestock industry, where he held various roles in both academia and private sectors, focusing on animal health, livestock judging, and genetic research. His dedication and expertise in the field eventually led him to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where he spent more than 15 years. As the Executive Director of Agriculture and Competitions, Cowley played a pivotal role in the show's growth and success.In 2018, Cowley took the reins as the CEO of the Calgary Stampede, embracing the opportunity to lead one of the world's most prestigious Western events. Under his leadership, the Stampede has experienced significant growth while maintaining its strong commitment to the community, the environment, and animal welfare. Cowley's strategic vision and focus on innovation have helped the Calgary Stampede navigate the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and emerge stronger than ever. He has played a crucial role in developing new partnerships, expanding the Stampede's cultural and educational programs, and implementing sustainability initiatives that ensure the event's long-term success. Outside of his professional life, Cowley enjoys spending time with his family.

2023 Stampede Parade Marshal - Jeremy Hansen
Stampede is over the moon to announce that this year’s Parade Marshal is Canadian Space Agency astronaut, Jeremy Hansen.
Hansen will lead the 2023 Stampede Parade before he departs on the Artemis II mission, becoming the first Canadian to fly to the moon!
